Frequently Asked Questions
A Sky and Eddie Miniature Aussiedoodle
Will my Doodle shed? At Sand Lake Kennels, I advertise the puppies to be low to no-shedding. Many of my puppies do not shed, however, since I am crossing a breed that does shed with one that does not, I do not guarantee you will receive a puppy that will never shed. If your puppy does shed, however, it should be minimal.
Do you dock tails? Although both Poodles and Australian Shepherds typically dock tails, I usually do not. I like the long tails, which typically have a lot of curl to them. If you do want your puppy's tail docked, we can have that done within the first 24-48 hours, however, your puppy must be paid for in advance.
How does "picking my puppy" work? The first person to place a deposit gets to choose first, second chooses second, etc. Puppy picks are done at 6 weeks old, but puppies are not available to go to their new homes until 8 weeks old. Since the advent of Covid-19, we are now scheduling Zoom calls that everyone can join to see the puppies in action to help you decide which puppies are your favorites. We will also try and take videos and post links of the puppies prior to that so you can see them playing and get a feel for their personalities.
How come I can't get a picture of my puppy right away when I call for one? When we take new pictures of the puppies, we take an average of 150 pictures per puppy or more. Puppies are wiggly and don't always pose for the camera! We then examine each picture to come up with the 7 pictures per puppy that we will use. As an example, a litter of 7 puppies will require a minimum of 1050 pictures that all need to be filtered through, cropped and made as clear as possible so you can see the puppies best. We want you to get a good look at the puppies!
Ivermectin and Herding Breeds: I recommend that you do not give your Aussiedoodle products that have Ivermectin in them, as it can be deadly to some herding breeds. I recommend that you speak to your vet for his best recommendation on this.
How will my puppy get to me? In normal times, we can ship your puppy to you, however, times are uncertain right now with the advent of COVID-19. Until things settle down, we recommend that you plan on coming to get your new puppy. If it is too far to drive and you choose to fly, you can take your puppy as "carry on" under your seat, as long as you get your puppy while still small enough to fit in an airline approved carrier. We can help you choose one that will work. We also can help you get your puppy shipped through a puppy nanny or by ground transportation until the airlines are shipping again. Contact us to work out the details.
Our response to COVID-19
We have kept your puppies healthy and have stayed healthy too by taking new precautions. Until things settle down, we have adopted a new protocol to protect not only us and our ability to take good care of our dogs, but you as well. As much as we love meeting you and having you visit, we have decided to close our house for now and will be meeting our puppy families outside or on our deck to greet their new puppy. We trust you understand our desire to keep all involved safe.
Can I call you with questions? Absolutely! We love to stay in touch with our new "extended families" and encourage you to call with any questions you may have throughout the life of your dog. We can also set up times to Zoom with our long distance families.
